I was going to suggest that you move up here to Vancouver, B.C. Canada…and then I realized that our Prime minister is a fucking EVANGELICAL! Its always good to know your enemy. I doubt many smug canadians understand the very real threat of insidious religious bullshit that makes its way into our laws and erodes our freedoms. We are too busy being complacent and proud about not being Americans.

I am also a somewhat radical atheist.
I am so sick of watching religion and religious nuts, preach to the world and then go out and kill, hate and act as hypocrites.
Religion is nothing but mass hypnosis, boosted by guilt and fear.
But I have a dilemma that maybe you faced before, and I wonder how you dealt with it?
I have very dear friends who are believers, they will never change their ways, I know that. (They have been hypnotized and indoctrinated from birth)
How do you be honest with yourself, and not hide your beliefs and still not hurt those you love?

Howdy Nasty. Good question. I just tell the truth as I see it in a calm straight forward manner, but don’t press to the point of argument. Theres no reason to fuss and fight with the ones you love. The time you spend together should be pleasant.
But at the same time, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to be who you are. You should not have to be fake. If they love you, they should love you for who you are, and vice versa.
I never feel the need to agree with something I don’t just to be polite. If I disagree I say so. But I’m not nasty about it. If its obvious that a fight is brewing I simply change the subject to something more humorous and laugh my way to the next topic.
No reason fight if you don’t have to. I hope that’s helpful in some way.
Thanks Dusty you’re 100 % right, I would not want to fight with them.
But its so frustrating to see them so dedicated to a fantasy, to be wasting their time, and donating their money to the church.
I want to grab them and shake them awake.
In a way I know how these JW’s and others who preach to the world feel, I want to yell it from the tree tops, there is NO GOD, there is no Heaven or HELL.
But I restrain myself out of respect for others.

I would want to propose you the “niztschean experiment” when you have time-
You most probably know who Friedrich Nietzsche is (you know, the philosopher who is critized by everyone in the conservative bunch by calling him a “nazi”). The guy used to be a christian since childhood, escaped and fell into another shit in romanticism (you know, the cultural movement where a bunch of idiots spend their lives whining and wanting to die) and started his philosophical relevance after escaping from that too.
You many times mentioned how you’re waiting to see what will be “the next illusion to be shattered”- after seeing how wrong you were, you’re far more open-minded to everything and conscious of how easily we decieve ourselves. I too was in some kind of shit (not going to tell what) and after you “awake” and stop being fucked up, you may feel like you were waisting your life up to that point- but it’s also true that you’re far deeper minded than the average joe. I think you -like a lot of other people that I know who have changed their ways- must have also noticed this when you discover that, thanks to that, you can give above-average advises to other people’s problems and how to solve them. But the thing that drew me to this conclusion more than anything was to re-discover this guy. Years ago, I looked at him like some crazy fascist- mainly because I couldn’t understand what the fuck was he saying with his aphorisms, but suddenly I was able to understand what the man was trying to say- the world is fucked up, people are constantly deceiving themselves, and we’re letting the motherfuckers who make money out of it (church, politicians, and all the companys that make money out of the insecurities of the average joe) do it. Against all that, logic!

Thanks for the message. You are very observant. I have heard of Nietzsche, but I’m not that well studied on him. I appreciate the recommendation. I’m going to study up on him and his writings.
I agree with everything you said. Everything I did in the past led up to where I am today, so I don’t regret it. It had to happen for me to reach the point I am.
Anyway, gonna go do some research on the guy. Thanks for the tip.
